Harvest Festival - 2015

Sunday 4th October

Thanksgiving Service 11am

Another truly memorable service was held in St Paul’s this year to celebrate Harvest.  The church was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers, fruit and vegetables, and music was provided by the Cartmel Music Centre under the direction of Mrs Judith Pool.  It was a lovely day, even the sun shone, and as ever the church was beautifully decorated by our talented group of flower arrangers.

The warm welcome greeted us in the front porch!

And inside ...

The collection at the morning service this year was for the Bishop's Harvest Appeal to help the poorest famailies in Bolivia and Sudan.

Harvest Tea and Auction 4 pm

Later in the day members of the congregation returned to church for a short service which had been arranged by the curate, the Revd Andrew Norman, and Joyce Leach.

Afterwards everyone enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea, and then bid for the goods that had been donated.

The proceeds of the auction go to US (formerly USPG), to support the training school for nurses in Bollobhpur Hospital, Bangladesh, a country that has a shortage of extra medical personnel. The students – mostly women – leave with excellent job prospects, enabling them to find support their families. Small posies of flowers were later distributed around the parish to those who live alone.
