THE EDWARDIAN FESTIVAL IN GRANGE

As part of the parish’s outreach and mission, the Parochial Church Council of St Paul’s and the Fell Churches decided to take a stand at the Edwardian Festival in Grange on Saturday, 9th June.  The aim was to show how the parish contributed to the life of the community, and what the churches had to offer.  After much discussion five main topics were chosen – pastoral care, worship, social, young people and the Mothers’ Union.  Under each of these headings the various activities involved were listed, and photographs were chosen to illustrate those themes.

Early in the morning of the Festival Park Road Gardens were a hive of activity as various organisations in Grange began to assemble their gazebos, and to set out their ‘wares’.  The sun shone and there was a lively and friendly atmosphere throughout the day, with plenty of people milling about, many of them in Edwardian dress.  Entertainers kept the children enthralled, and there was a continuous programme of music and dancers on the bandstand.  The final event was the parade to judge the best Edwardian costume.

The church stand attracted a good deal of interest, and a rota of people from the churches were on hand to talk to visitors and to hand out ‘goodies’ – book markers, parish magazines, programmes, and invitations to the special Edwardian Songs of Praise at the Parish Church on the Sunday evening.
