We had planned to
have the short afternoon service sitting in the choir stalls, but they
soon filled up; then we brought in chairs and they were taken, and in
the end we spread out into the pews in the main aisle! A fantastic
response to the poster invitation to ‘Cake and Candlemas’. Over 60
Mums, Dads and grandparents arrived with 23 children. Those children
who had made lanterns at school the previous Thursday were keen to claim
them and show them to their parents.
Andrew led the
service, teaching us a Peruvian Gloria, Joyce told the story of Simeon
and Anna, and Christine said the prayers. The service ended with a long
procession round the church, singing as we went, and with the children
carrying their lanterns.
Then it was time
for the cakes – and what a super array there was! All agreed that it
had been a great success.
