Easter celebrations 2008

This year's Holy Week was led by author Ann Lewin, a writer and poet, from the Winchester Diocese, and all appreciated her thought-provoking and spiritual leadership. A large audience in church on Good Friday evening enjoyed a programme of poetry, art and music, with an augmented choir from the Cartmel Peninsula Team led by Adrian Self.

On Good Friday the ecumenical Walk of Witness began, as usual, from the United Reformed Church and ended at the Parish Church.  Under the heading of 'The cost of love', the story of the Passion as retold in hymns, readings and prayers with people from the various churches taking part.  Over 120 bystanders watched the procession.

On the evening of Holy Saturday, a special service at Cartmel Priory saw members from across the Team gathered outside in the darkness for the lighting of the Paschal Candle.  Each person present then lit his or her own candle from the Paschal candle, and processed back into church bringing in the light.  At the end of the service paschal candles were given for taking back to Grange and Lindale churches.  During the service everyone renewed their baptismal vows.

About 20 people were up early on Sunday morning for the sunrise service, after which hot cross buns were served in the Meeting Room.   The church was beautifully decorated for the main service at 10.45 am, as the photos below show.
